My Story

I was born in Jamaica and came to FL as a child from the Bahamas. I have lived in FL longer than my place of birth. I lived and grew up in Delray Beach during the midst of integration. When I arrived in FL, I-95 had not yet been fully constructed north of Palm Beach Gardens and Military Trail was primarily agriculture and equestrian land. I initially came to FL to vacation with my aunt during the Christmas holiday. To convince my mother to travel to America, my aunt enrolled me in school forcing our fate and changing the trajectory of my life.

I am the eldest of my four siblings.  As the eldest, there was always an expectation to set the example for my siblings. I was raised primarily in a single parent household along with my four siblings. Over the course of time, my mother came to adopt several children into our household; they were relatives or friends who decided to stay to become part of a large, extended family. My mother was stern, determined, and didn’t accept excuses for missing out on opportunities, especially anything related to education. Her words were enduring “a good education is hard to come by and nothing can take it away from you”. So, it was instilled in me at an early age to take my education seriously.

My Platform

I have been a resident of Lake Park for over 20 years. During my years as a resident, I have volunteered for 12 years on the Planning and Zoning Board; six years as Chair of the Board. I have seen our beautiful town grow and blossom over those years and am thankful to be a part of that growth. It is my desire to continue to build on what our current commissioners are doing. Over the past five years, I have seen young couples move into the community to raise their families and want to ensure opportunities are available for all income levels.

In addition to volunteering on the P/Z Board, I have also been active with the Friends of the Library of Lake Park by donating over 1000 books through the Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) for the summer reading program and “Back to School Extravaganza”.

I plan to work toward:

  • Improved educational opportunities for the youth in our community through reading programs
  • Recreational activities for families in neighborhood parks
  • Housing opportunities for diverse income groups, and
  • Consistent & equitable code enforcement
  • Inclusive placemaking and redevelopment
